In a pompous display of water, light, fire and pyrotechniques, Dubai Festival City officially launched IMAGINE – a cutting-edge multimedia entertainment spectacular. The showcase was one of the highlights of the opening day of the 22ndedition of Dubai Shopping Festival 2017.
His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum officially inaugurated the event in the presence of a crowd exceeding over 5000 people from UAE and visitors from across the world.  Launch of IMAGINE is part of a Dh1.5 billion ($408 million) expansion programme by Al-Futtaim Group to reinvigorate Dubai Festival City as one of the UAE’s most exciting destinations.
IMAGINE is touted to be Dubai’s new global attraction and aims to bring in tourists from not only the region but from across the world.
During the launch, officials from GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS verified the attempt for the largest water screen projection in the world announcing timg_7486he achievement onstage.
According to Steven Cleaver, Director Shopping Centres, Al-Futtaim Group Real Estate : “This project has been three years in the making and what we have developed is truly an awesome spectacle that residents of Dubai and visitors from all over the world will want to come and see. “We have worked closely with our partner Laservision, to develop a cutting edge multi-media show that will capture the imagination of people of all ages and will be something visitors will want to come back for time and again.”
The spectacle plays a magical 360 degree story across the waterfront using light, fire and water. This magical story is captured in the very essence of the first show – ‘Stardancer’ –  a beautifully artistic show featuring ethereal and cosmic themes using ballet and contemporary dance. Among the other features will be a huge projection surface on the InterContinental – which the promoters claim, is five times bigger than the world’s largest IMAX screen.
The daily shows are free-to-attend and are scheduled to run all throughout the year with the main show running each night on the hour. The festival city promenade can accommodate 12000 guests at a time. Guests can also visit the restaurants at Festival City, many of which feature waterfront dining with the best views of the attraction, or simply enjoy the breath-taking show from any angle or focal point around Festival Bay.
