A Bong Affair at Dil Se Desi, Bur Dubai

Bengal is home to one of the most diverse and unique cuisines in the whole of India and no two Bengali dishes are alike.

Having lived in the UAE for past thirteen years, I have had the good fortune to enjoy some varied international cuisines however, however there has been a big lacunae in the Bengali culinary space with very few restaurants specialised in Bengali fare. There are hardly any restaurants here in Dubai that cater to this segment.

I thank my good friend and blogger Subashree for introducing me to Dil Se Desi. This restaurant is an answer the long felt need for more north indian and bengali cuisine restaurants in this space.  The restaurant is run by a passionate couple who left their jobs to follow their dream of starting a restaurant that offered very true-to-roots simple and sincere fare that could be enjoyed by all.

I visited Dil Se Desi last week - a very humble and unassuming restaurant offering some very refreshing north eastern tastes. I enjoyed some of the finest in Bengali cuisine there. Owners Sudip and his lovely wife Sancheta were personally there to welcome us. That's the beauty of restaurants run by people with passion.

They make sure that every single guest who comes within the portals of their restaurant feel completely at home. Food too is very homely and non commercialized so there you see a sincere effort to stay true to the roots without experimenting with tastes. Quality is high because that is what the founders believe in - to offer utmost quality and supreme service very much in line with the Bengali hospitality at the same time maintain costs so that good food is affordable to all.

Situated in Pearl hotel apartments, the restaurant offers a very fine selection of North Eastern Indian cuisines and mainly specialized in Bengali cuisine.

We ordered the below dishes

Tangri Kabab
Tandoori Alu Bharwan
Fish Finger
Dimer devil Alu
Kasha Mangsho
Kancha Lanka Chicken
Egg Alu Dum Biryani
Bhetki Paturi
Mug Dal Lebupata
Jhuri Alu Bhaja
Steamed rice
Luchi
Matarshuti kochuri

I must say that each of these dishes had a very unique touch of Bengali finesse in the taste. It almost felt like eating at some fine dining restaurant - minus the glamour. Little wonder that the restaurant has won the award for the top ten hidden gems of Dubai. They deserve all the accolades and rave reviews they have been receiving right from the time they established.

I highly recommend Dil Se Desi restaurant in Bur Dubai for someone that wants to feel the true essence of Bengali fine culinary excellence without having to burn a hole in their pockets.

This restaurant is highly recommended.
