Amritsr - Authentically Punjabi

Image
This week I had the pleasure of trying out Amritsr with a dear friend who is a connoisseur of Punjabi cuisine. We were there on the national holiday so parking was easy in front of the restaurant. The look and feel of the restaurant gave the very amritsari vibe and we met the owner who was also present at the time of our visit. A very friendly and hospitable guy, he took great care of us and the staff were very friendly and hospitable too. Now going to the food, we started with Masala Chaas and Lassi. Both very authentic and nice. We then ordered Aloo Kulcha and Paneer Kulcha... Both were heavy to look at but very light on eating. The kulcha was crispy on the outside and filled with luscious potato on the inside. The same with Paneer ka kulcha. Both equally amazing. We were already food with these two dishes but i wanted to try one of their chat items so I ordered Dahi Bhalla. One hell of a solid dish, it has lots of pomegranate seeds which gave it a very unique taste. By t...

Image
Dubai is about to get a whole lot sweeter, and healthier! Introducing House of Pops: an all-natural, environmentally-friendly, quirky, and fun way of eating fruit. A concept originating from and inspired by Mexico’s paletas, House of Pops is an indulgent, healthier alternative to your average ice cream. Closest to a ‘fruit-on-a-stick' as one can find, House of Pops’ popsicles boast of being 100% natural, and free of the nasties! House of Pops was born with a mission of bringing the UAE a healthier alternative to the already available, refined sugar-packed, preservative-heavy ice creams flooding the majority of supermarkets today. With many adopting healthier lifestyles and in the search for cleaner, more natural foods, House of Pops joins the movement by developing an entire line of hand-crafted, vegan pops featuring only five ingredients with fruit outranking all, essentially making it a ‘fruit-on-a-stick’. This has in-turn produced a winning formula: ‘all-natural, refined s...

Bon Chicken Bon Bon - A korean concept at Nakheel Mall

Image
That's how today's lunch looked like!  @bonchickenae  part of the  @chinesepalaceae  group serves up a nice array of Korean style fried chicken and other lip smacking dishes inspired from the far east. For a fast food brand, their offerings will surprise you. Its on par with restaurant quality, and that's what really got me hooked to this brand. The best part is that they have gluten free options too, for the health conscious. We started off with their chicken popcorn, which was truly amazing. Then a double combo, good for two people. It came with 8 pieces of wings in three tantalizing flavours, 2 appetizers - milk bun & garlic fried rice, 2 medium sized pepsi and 2 fries. Next, we also ordered one of their single combos which came with 2 piece thighs & legs, 1 appetizer, 1 side, i fries and a pepsi. The chicken was delicious, less oily compared to other brands and very filing. Lunch wouldn't be complete without some rice, so we ordered KIMCHI fri...

Malabar Adukkala, Karama - A Review

Image
Recently I had a chance to visit newly launched keralite cuisine restaurant Malabar Adukkala in Karama. I had my good friend and media colleague Mahsoom Thottathil from  @arabiangazette  as my plus one. Mahsoon is a definite expert in Keralite cuisine and i could not have asked for a better company to review a malabari restaurant. We were offered a complimentary welcome drink upon arrival. Ambience was good. The venue was formerly Appa Kadai and now the space taken over by MA team. Service was pleasant. We ordered Hammour Tawa Fry and Chicken Fry before the main course. Fish was soft, fresh and made nicely. Chicken could have been tad softer, but nevertheless the marination was good. Main course was Mutton Biryani and Dum Parotta. Both these dishes were presented in a mud pot sealed inside with banana leaf. Mutton Biryani : (8/10) The rice was cooked well with all the flavours of the spices intact. Mutton was soft like sponge and tasted quite good. Its a little ...

Brazilian Sushi at Sushi Nations Mirdif. Perfect marriage between Japanese style and Brazilian treatment

Image
Ever tried Brazilian Sushi or atleast heard of it? Here's a little backstory of brazilian sushi and how it came into being, while you thought Sushi was a very Japanese thing. Japanese cuisine has existed in São Paulo since the beginning of the 20th century, when Japanese workers began immigrating to Brazil to work on coffee farms. Japanese Brazilians adapted their native cuisine to incorporate a type of fast food sushi restaurant called a temakeria that is unique to Brazil. Brazilians eat a lot of fish– especially in the north and coastal areas — and they eat a lot of sushi. Brazilian sushi is a fusion thing, which brings together the raw fresh fish we all love with typical Brazilian tastes. The best place to try Japanese sushi in Dubai is Sushi Nations, founded by Chadi Nasser, the brand has made waves ever since its first launch and has grown to close to a dozen branches in just the course of a year or two. We recently enjoyed a lovely afternoon at Sushi Nations Uptown ma...
