A Bong Affair at Dil Se Desi, Bur Dubai

Image
Bengal is home to one of the most diverse and unique cuisines in the whole of India and no two Bengali dishes are alike. Having lived in the UAE for past thirteen years, I have had the good fortune to enjoy some varied international cuisines however, however there has been a big lacunae in the Bengali culinary space with very few restaurants specialised in Bengali fare. There are hardly any restaurants here in Dubai that cater to this segment. I thank my good friend and blogger Subashree for introducing me to Dil Se Desi. This restaurant is an answer the long felt need for more north indian and bengali cuisine restaurants in this space.  The restaurant is run by a passionate couple who left their jobs to follow their dream of starting a restaurant that offered very true-to-roots simple and sincere fare that could be enjoyed by all. I visited Dil Se Desi last week - a very humble and unassuming restaurant offering some very refreshing north eastern tastes. I enjoyed s

Ridiculously good burgers at Pickl

Image
I was at Pickl recently with my blogger friend and regular dining companion Suren Rajamohan. Him being a burger connoisseur I highly regard his views and suggestions on places to try in Dubai particularly when it comes to steaks and burgers and I have noted that all the places he has ever recommended have always exceeded expectations, never once disappointing. So saying, when he invited me to join him to one of the most exciting new burger joints in town, i was both intrigued and excited.  Well, as always, Pickl didn't disappoint either. We met Reese, the restaurant in charge, manager, guru what ever you can it. A fine lad with a friendly and warm smile and nature. He made us feel totally welcome. It was wonderful to meet him and understand this concept before actually trying out the brand. We were offered a nice selection of Burgers, fries and bites.  I must remark that right from the first bite, the flavour and taste was spot on.  The fries were laden with a thick l

Snack Wrap - Fantastic Wraps, Burgers and More

Image
I was recently in Abu Hail for a meeting and as I passed by a familiar lane, I noticed a few new restaurants and cafes that apparently seemed to have launched recently. Quite hungry and tired, i decided to hop into one for a quick bite. I saw Snack Wrap in a corner of a popular and new indian restaurant called Mr. Biryani. I had read some fabulous reviews about the place so I spoke to the hostess and inquired about the place. She directed me to Snack Wrap as I was not looking for a full fledged meal, but only a light and quick bite with some beverage. Hopping on to Snack Wrap I found the place to be quite small but really very well laid out. It appeared like a kind of pop in pop out place with limited seating. I had a glimpse of the menu and decided to order a mexican shewarma meal. Chicken mexican shewarma came at 8 dhs and making it a meal with fries and soft drinks was at an additional  8 . The mexican shewarma was extremely good and filling. It comes as two slices and t

Amazing flavours and tastes at Bombay Kulfi Dubai

Image
There is only one place in Dubai that has continued to remain my ever favourite place to go to when I crave for Kulfi. It is undoubtedly Bombay Kulfi. I like it because firstly the kulfis are pure natural and taste so delicious. Secondly its made using hundred percent pure cows milk and compared to the sugary and fake kulfis in the market, this is undeniably different. One of my most favourite flavors is the Black Currant. The taste has been consistent. It was as awesome as I have tasted it months ago when they first launched. If you re looking for remarkable flavours at a great price and quality then Bombay Kulfi should be your first choice. ... The Story Fascinated by rich, creamy and taste tingling desserts, which is an indispensable part of the Indian history and culture, Poonam Shah and Manish Kankaria decided to revive the good old favorite Indian traditional ice cream and serve it to the cur

Ridiculously good wings at Desi Wings

Image
Today at a casual weekend catch up at a friends at Oud Medha we ended up having a drinkathon and some two hours down the adventure, felt bit hungry.  At least a couple of us wanted to have something spicy (considering the cold and lovely weather). Usually during such meetups, our usual choice is wings or some fast food. On the suggestion of a foodie friend i opened zomato and looked for the best options around the area. Reading a few nice reviews there and having already heard a lot about Desi Wings we decided to order from there today.  Few minutes later, we ended up ordering two dozens of them. At only AED 95 we got a wonderful assortment of four mind blowing flavours that highly appealed to our palates - we being Indian. Some of the flavours we chose are Malai Cheese garlic wings, Adraki Soy chili wings, smoked biryani spiced wings and Achayens pepper wings.  First off i must note that the delivery reached us very quick, packaging was simple and neat and the food warm.

Sea food fiesta at total vale at IBN Hamido

Image
Ibn Hamido Restaurant is the place to be for mouth-watering seafood delicacies in Dubai. From luscious seafood soups and broths to fresh and crunchy salads, appetizers and mains, everything on our menu is made after careful consideration and with close attention to detail. As a result, the taste of their food is distinctive and unlike any seafood you may have ever tried before. We were recently invited to be part of the launch event and the evening was quite entertaining with live music, song and lots of food. Each of us were presented with salads, starters, kebabs, grills and a platter with the Egyptian traditional rice preparation. The restaurant is quite spacious and comfortable with good interior design and great cutlery. The waiters were pleasant and friendly. The portion sizes were quite generous and reasonably good and the views outside was stunning. Visit them for a sumptuous seafood feast.

Mango people. Aam logon Ka Khaas khana

Image
Today, happened to be invited for the official launch of a new restaurant concept called Mango People in Dubailand. As any Hindi speaking person would understand, Mango People literally translated from Hindi (Aam Log) sounds like a slightly humourous & naughty take on the popular political party in India. But let me assure you, Mango People has no political lineage of any sort, nor any cheeky sense of humour. Infact, Mango People is about the SERIOUS love for GOOD food. This notwithstanding the fact that cheeky lines from #Bollywood scream out from all directions of its yellow walls. A couples love for good food and making great quality affordable for all lead to the creation of Mango People. And, that's exactly what they are striving to do. The restaurant so perfectly lives up to its maxim "Aam logon Ka Khaas khana" - which means Excuisite Food of the Common MAN. As someone said, simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, Mango People will surprise you by its
