The Perfect Friday Brunch - The Bench Brunch at The Daily

Image
The Bench Brunch at The Daily, Rove Hotel, City Centre Friday is that day of the week when we just want to take the back seat, live life - a bit slower, chillout with loved ones and of course, enjoy a great meal.  This whole Friday equation is incomplete without food. Food is kind of the national obsession in this country, particularly in Dubai. And this obsession gets to its peek on weekends.  Needless to say, every other restaurant in town is vying for this segment with happy hours and countless other weekend promotions and offers. Image
Baydar : A Review On one of our evening drives past Al Barsha at rush hour, we decide to get a respite from the traffic and popped in to Al Barsha mall. The board read “Authentic Lebanese Food”.  Guess we found exactly what we needed that night, so without much ado, we hopped right in. Luckily for us, we met Mr. Suren Rajamohan – the Marketing in-charge of the Abela group in Dubai. Abela & Co operates several popular restaurants in the region including Baydar, Sandella’s , Zaatar W’ Aktar, Bean There Bistro and Red Apron express.  We felt reassured as we ha

This week I was at the German Doner Kebab outlet in Dafza, near where I live. I. I had the opportunity to finally taste the delicacy considered the big daddy of the Arab shawarma, the Greek gyros, and the Mexican al pastor. Yes - the famous Doner Kebab! Did you know? Did you know the word "Shawarma" is the Arabic pronunciation of the Turkish word "Çevirme" (First letter is Turkish and pronounced as "ch". Since Arabic does not have that letter, they pronounce it as "sh". Similarly, the closest pronunciation of the word Çevirme becomes Shawarma with the other Arabic letters). Çevirme is another Turkish word with a similar meaning, "to turn" symbolizing the method of cooking - meat turning slowly on the rotisserie.  A bit of Doner Kebab History Originally a Turkish import into Germany, the Doner Kebab - named after the Turkish word "dondurmek" meaning rotating roast, has grown to capture a special place in the heart of
