Another Indian restaurant in Dubai Purveying Authentic Keralite Cuisine : Moriz Al Nahda

Moriz is one of the newest restaurants that has joined the now popular food street of Al Nahda. Situated adjacent to the popular Biryaniwallah and Co, Moriz serves Indian, Chinese, Kerala, Arabian and Middle Eastern cuisines.

On entering the restaurant the first thing you'll notice is the coziness. Mirrors on all sides give it an illusion of being a bigger restaurant than it actually is. Clever job from the architect. The lighting is soothing but some might find it tad overly cozy, resembling a spa or something like that. It was red all over and gave a different vibe altogether. But certainly never one like you would experience in any other keralite restaurant in Dubai.

We started off with some drinks. I had ordered masala fanta while my dining companions ordered fruit punch - which seemed more like orange juice topped with vanilla ice cream.  With my drink, the restaurant attempted to create a thumbs up soda kind of drink however it lacked the punch i would expect from it. The green chili arranged on the glass gave it the feeling of a spicy drink but it didn't quite hit the spot.

In soups my partners had Chicken Ching soup which they told me was very spicy, in a good way of course. My soup was a tad above average and the quantity was just too much. I would advice they maintain quality over quantity in the dish.

We progressed into the appetizers with a chicken hot meal sizzler and mushroom hungama sizzler. Though it was an already sultry night, we still decided to try out some of their sizzling delights and we didn't regret. The sizzlers were flavorpacked and delicious. Just like how we would have loved our sizzlers to be.

The Shawai grill biryani was lovely. Being a biryani connoissuer that's the first dish I would have loved to try. I am glad it didn't disappoint  me at all. The masala, flavours and taste were all spot on.
Then we also tried their Moriz special chicken and chili prawns. Though named chili prawns the spice factor was not what we expected. It was rather sweet. But delicious nevertheless.

Finally it was time to wash down the indulgence with desserts and of course a glass of their frothing popular fuljar soda.

The fuljar soda again was better than many of the places I tried this before. It had a punch to it and it was enjoyable to drink!  In desserts we had mango brownie sizzler. It was very well presented, intensely sweet- thanks to the addition of choco syrup and honey.

The location is nice. Not much parking woes like in Karama, though the lane gets very busy on weekends, you might still manage to park somewhere. So a big plus. Secondly the restaurant has an exhaustive menu catering to other segments of the population too, not just keralite, which i think is a good decision as the area is frequented by many different demographics.  Pricing has been kept quite reasonable and the ambiance is neat so well worth a try.

The only thing I would have them improve is the service and order turnout time. It is very crucial. We had to wait for at least an hour before our order arrived, despite the fact that we were the only table occupied in the entire restaurant.  Other than that, while we moved tables owing to heat, our soups were removed and not moved to the new table. I found that a tad unusual as the waiters could have checked with us if we were done with the soup before making their own decision or assuming we were done. Apart from this, our dining experience was enjoyable.
