Colonial inspired modern Indian fare in an upbeat setting at Peppermill, Dubai Mall

Image
Dubai Mall’s first Indian Restaurant has arrived! Situated above the famed Apple store on the 2 nd floor, Peppermill presents a delicious array of colonial-inspired Indian cuisine in a casual and laid-back setting. Though most of the Peppermill outlets are situated in well-established malls, each and every outlet has a distinct charm and character of its own. The newest outlet in Dubai mall is no different.  Green tiled walls and wooden shelves decked with colonial artifacts including a vintage telephone, table fan, still camera, miniature pepper-mill to name just a few - give the place a colonial-regal charm and tell a tale or two of its own. The cuisine is equally colonial-inspired and present an array of inventive recipes and alluring flavors influenced by the bygone colonial era. This era has given rise to one of the most interesting cuisines we know – the Anglo-Indian gastronomy - which is nothing but a robust amalgamation of eastern spices and herbs into western coo...

Bosporus - A delicious gateway to the culinary epicentre of Turkey

Image
Last Thursday Blogliterati.com visited the iconic Wafi Mall to review Bosporus - the Turkish restaurant chain - which is arguably one of the best Turkish restaurants in Dubai. Named after the famed Bosphorus strait, Bosporus restaurant forms a culinary gateway that connects the people of UAE with the exquisite Ottoman cuisine of Turkey. A Dubai born concept Bosporus started in 2010 with a mission to be the best Turkish restaurant by serving Authentic Ottoman cuisine and its rich history to the culturally diverse city of Dubai. Owing to this reason, even their slogan reads - "Your Bridge to Turkey". At Bosporus guests could experience the authenticity of Turkish Cuisine, traditional Turkish food and all its magical flavors; a place where the Turkish roots and culture of yesterday meets the highest quality and standards of today. Welcome by the Managers Amr and Eden There couldn’t be a better venue than Wafi to enjoy such a traditional and culturally signific...

Malolo's Poke - Freshness in each and every single bite

Image
The UAE weather is so annoyingly arid off late, it takes bit of an effort to motivate oneself to go outdoors, even if it is - just to the neighborhood grocery store. Yesterday was one such day. The hunger inside played pangs, nevertheless.  But the desire to stay indoors (and watch FIFA ) overpowered the desire to venture out in search of dinner. In a city like Dubai, where the delivery system is exceptional, the distance between ones favorite food and hunger, is all but a zomato order, away. I was feeling rather  Pokeish  yesterday, so to say! Needless to mention, I couldn’t have opted for anything else, than a bowl of poke, which meant less trouble washing any dishes, and more time lying on the couch and enjoying the game. Poke Hawaiian poke is a trendy fresh bowl traditionally topped with fresh fish and lots of fun toppings, like fresh veggies, avocado, seaweed and even chips. Poke bowls are popping up everywhere in the UAE and it’s easy to see why; it’s a healt...

Mighty Quinn's: BBQ Cooked the Old School Way

Image
When one of New York’s best barbeque chain made its way to Dubai earlier this year, BBQ lovers a.k.a meat connoisseurs here rejoiced. Well-known for their old school barbeque cooking using smoke and time, Mighty Quinn's is an extremely popular fast casual concept serving delicious and wholesome smoked meat and BBQ.  The brand prides itself in using only the finest ingredients and cooking with wood and time- the old school way – which grounds one to the basic elements of making great food.  What separates Mighty Quinn’s from all the regular barbecue joints is their focus on every part of the menu, from the side dishes down to the drinks. Of course, their meats are still the main attraction. The Menu The menu is pretty straightforward and I liked that there are only a few items to choose from.    Just glimpsing through once, I was able to quickly make the choices. What we had We started off with a glass of watermelon juice and classic lemon mint moj...

Catching the Sushi Train at ITSU Sushi, Palm Jumeirah

Image
We were recently invited to review Itsu Sushi at Palm Jumeirah. It was a lovely evening of great food and equally good drinks. The Drinks In juices we had Passion fruit and Mango mojito. Both were very sweet to our liking but for those who like their drink extra sugary, this is just perfect. For salads we picked Kani salad and Itsu salad. Kani Salad :  a fresh and delightful melange of shredded cucumber, lettuce, Japanese mayo, Tobikko, mango and edamame. Itsu Salad A special savory and creamy seafood salad comprising of a mix seafood cube cut, mango, cucumber, edamame, tobikko and japanese mayo on a base of lettuce and cucumber. It was really very delicious. In appetizers I had Prawn Gyoza while my dining companion opted for Edamame.  It had a salty version and sweet-chilly version. Itsu's dim sum of steamed prawn parcels are served with a spicy dip – a great starter for sharing. Main Course In the main course, I went for  Itsu special platter...

Debonairs Pizza - Try Something Amazing!

Image
After my ever favourite pizzeria – Figaros closed down, globally, i could never relate to any brand as much as I did with Figaros. I tried the pizza huts and dominos of the business. I also tried various Italian restaurants and pizzerias around town, but nothing could quite satiate the craving of a true Pizza connoisseur. I recently tried Debonairs pizza, and I must admit that I finally found a brand that has won my heart. My order I ordered two medium sized pizzas from their Dubai Marina branch last night – Fired Up Chicken Pizza and Original veggie pizza in mains. For sides, I ordered BBQ Chicken wings and potato wedges. In salads I went for Greek salad. Fired Up Chicken Pizza  -I must admit that this was one of the best pizzas I’ve tasted in the UAE. Totally tantalizing look and equally scrumptious to taste, the Fired up chicken pizza came with tiny cut chicken, jalapeno, sweet bell pepper, tomato, fired up sauce and spring onion. The pizza looked so rich and burst...

Sagar Ratna Restaurant - Authentic Rajastani Cuisine in JLT

Image
Finally we found a Rajastani restaurant in Dubai for authentic Rajastani cuisine. Sagar Ratna restaurant situated in JLT is a great new place to try out pure vegetarian food that is true to Rajastani taste. More than 70% of Rajasthan is vegetarian, which makes it the most vegetarian state in India. Needless to say, their expertise in vegetarian food is very well established. You can get a feel of this at Sagar Ratna restaurant where everything from the snack to the curries are very well prepared in line with their tradition. What we had? We started our indulgence with a shot of Makhaniya Lassi which is nothing but sweetened buttermilk garnished with saffron and slight hint of nuts. Its thick in consistency so cant be drunk but rather scooped up with a spoon. Great way to start a spicy meal. Rajastan is also famously known for its snacks, spicy chutneys made of turmeric, garlic, mint and coriander. In snacks we were offered Jodhpuri Mirchi Bada and Jodhpuri Pyaaz Kach...

Image
Hook & Cook – An Absolute go-to destination when your crab-craving demands satiation We were recently at a bloggers meet facilitated by the marketing team at Hook & Cook seafood restaurant and we had an absolutely lovely seafood feast there. Hook & Cook is owned by Restaurateurs Muna and Safwat - a friendly Egyptian couple who have taken great pains to develop the space as a premier seafood restaurant crafting a seasonally inspired menu by utilizing the freshest seafood that is sophisticated, creative and rich with local flavours. I spoke to Muna on the backdrop of the review and was able to learn more about the Hook & Cook brand and her passion for seafood. Here are some clippings from the interview to Blogliterati.com   Ambiance First off, the place itself is so picture perfect, or Instagram worthy so to speak. The restaurant looks straight out of a br...
