Zafran's Iftar Buffet is a must-try this Ramadan

Zafran Indian Bistro Dubai Review

Enjoy an Iftar Buffet with an Indian twist this Ramadan, at Zafran

During one of our visits to Mirdif City, we stumbled on this gem – Zafran restaurant. We were looking for a Dubai iftar with an Indian twist and what could have been a better choice than Zafran?!
Walking through the 1st level of this friendly neighborhood mall, our team were presented with several culinary options, including the renowned Gazebo Indian Restaurant, but something about Zafran drew us in. Perhaps it’s the fine aroma of delightful Indian spices that appealed to our olfactory senses as we passed that way, or may be it was even the chic, warm and inviting ambiance.
The time was barely 7 pm, few odd minutes before iftar could be declared, but the place was already 80 percent occupied. Interestingly enough, majority of the diners seated at this bistro were Emirati or seemingly Arab nationals.
We found a few odd Indians and other nationalities in the mix but the crowd was predominantly the kandoora clad folk.  Judging from the nature of the crowd, we figured out that there was something surely special about the place. We hopped in.

Two friendly waiters beckoned us in, pointing us in the direction of the vacant seats.

We chose a slightly quiet and uneventful corner with comfortable leather sofa seating and large tables.  A waiter immediately darted to our table with a plate of nicely sliced watermelon and fresh dates – the customary food used to break the fast at iftar. Then came a plate of Chicken Malai Tikka and Aloo Masala for the starters.

 The Starters :

We broke our fast with the dates and watermelon and moved on to the other starters lined up on the table. Malai Tikka was fresh, tender and extremely tasty.  The Aloo Masala was a tad spicy, but appetizing nevertheless.

The Main Course:

For the main course, there was Chicken Biryani, Butter Chicken, Lamb and Potato curry and a host of other seafood dishes. For the vegetarians, there was Veg. Jalfrezi and Dal Tadka.  We learnt that their Ramadan menu was a weekly rotating one with options changing every day. Zafran Indian Bistro Dubai Review
Chicken Biryani was well-cooked, less spicy and sprinkled with fine roasted cashew nuts which gave it that premium taste. The chicken slices were tender, bite-sized and very nice. Unlike several other Indian restaurants that overdo the Biryani by adding a lot of spices, Zafran’s Biryani was a refreshing break for us.
The lamb curry was tasty and the lamb pieces tender. So was butter chicken curry which was creamy, non spicy and delish.
The Veg Jalfrezi was a concoction of fresh veggies all mashed up together in a delightful dish.
We ordered a few items from their a la carte menu as well, aside from the buffet set menu.
Dishes we ordered include Garlic naan, mint paratha, stuffed kulcha, lamb vindaloo and kadhai prawns. I also got some food packed as a take away for my significant other who is a connoisseur of vegetarian food. The praise the Dal Zafran and Paneer tikka got was immensely positive.

The Juices:

After a sumptuous meal we decided to wash it down with some fresh juices. Watermelon juice was refreshing and divine. They also had a selection of mock tails. But if Soda is not your thing, then we recommend going for a fresh fruit juice, mango or mint Lassi or better still tender coconut juice.

 The Dessert:

The desserts were bite sized servings containing a mix of Gulab Jamun, Rasmalai and Gajar Ka Halwa, perfect in quantity and a sweet end to the fantastic meal.
Zafran restaurant offers a variety of Indian dishes on their A la carte menu, so in case you don’t want to over indulge in an iftar buffet, but selectively enjoy your personal favorites, you can order from it or ask the waiter for recommendations on their specialty dishes.
The staff are extremely friendly and courteous and during our visit we even befriended an Indian waiter Gyan who entertained us with his pleasant conversation and ensured that we had the best dining experience that evening.
His friendly smile really gladdened our hearts, add to that, the impeccable and quick service during one of the restaurant’s busiest hour impressed us, to say the least.
Zafran run by Foodmark, a subsidiary of the renowned Landmark group reflects quality in every aspect.  Be it the chic ambience, the exceptional service, or the remarkable food, Zafran is premium, in every sense of the word.  The fresh and innovative specialties on their menu offer bold yet simple flavours created by giving a new twist to the Indian classics.
Our Verdict:
Zafran Bistro is a warm and welcoming retreat for friends and family who want to celebrate iftar together, relax, and enjoy high-quality food. We highly recommend trying their Iftar buffet and we are sure it will not disappoint even the most seasoned food critic.

Enjoy a lavish Iftar buffet this Ramadan at only AED 89.  If you are going there during the weekends, we recommend you book the tables well in advance.
